This photograph shows the Pan American Airways China Clipper in flight over San Francisco in 1936.The China Clipper entered service in 1935 and provided luxury trans-Pacific service to its passengers: The central lounge was wider than a Pullman car and meal service included fine china, silver and crystal. How much did it cost to fly the Pacific in luxury? The first nine passengers to fly the China Clipper in 1936 paid $ 1,438.20 for a round trip ticket from San Francisco to Manila.
